Build a resume that is easy to read
A practical structure for telling your story clearly, from your first role to your next move.
Start with the role you want
Read the job description and identify the experience you can honestly demonstrate. Put the most relevant work near the top. A resume is a focused introduction, not a complete autobiography.
Write evidence, not adjectives
Replace “excellent communicator” with an example of a report, presentation or customer conversation you handled. Describe what you did, the context and the result. Use numbers only when you can support them.
Choose a readable structure
Use familiar headings: Experience, Education, Skills and Projects. A simple single-column layout is a useful default. Avoid placing essential contact details inside images.
Check the exported file
Open your PDF, select the text and copy it into a plain text editor. Check the reading order, page breaks, spelling and contact details. Follow the employer’s requested file format, even when it differs from your preferred format.
