Know the source
Check who published the software and whether the distributor has permission to share it. Read the license and installation instructions before downloading.
Check compatibility
Match the version to your operating system. On Android, review the minimum system requirement and requested permissions. Do not disable security protections to force an installation.
Understand checksums
A SHA-256 checksum helps verify that a downloaded file matches the published bytes. It does not prove that the software is trustworthy. Publisher identity, source review and security scanning remain separate considerations.
Keep updates intentional
Review the changelog and keep a backup of important data before updating. Use official update channels whenever possible.
